Mr. Freeman Harris joined the Cochran Funeral Home of Rockmart in 1939 as manager. He was a graduate of the Gupton Jones Mortuary College, class of 1937 and at the time was employed with the Owens Funeral Home of Cartersville. Cochran Funeral Home was established in 1911 and was owned and operated by Mr. W. B. “Will” Cochran until Mr. Harris purchased the firm in 1942. Cochran Funeral Home then was renamed, the Freeman Harris Funeral Home and immediately following the purchase, Mr. Harris began plans to relocate the funeral home to a new facility. That facility was completed in 1947. Over the years many changes have been made to the building and grounds. The one, Mr. Harris was the most proud was the completion in 1969 of the chapel with a seating capacity of 260.
Freeman Harris Funeral Home today offers a staff of licensed funeral directors and attendants to assist each family. Those families wishing to discuss pre-need arrangements will find an attentive ear to discuss their wishes. Those who find themselves facing immediate difficult decisions will appreciate the caring professional assurance provided to help organize and arrange a tribute to a life well spent and when the funeral or memorial services are over we strive to provide assistance with the small unanticapted things.
