Mr. James Floyd “Shorty” Morris, age 84 of Aragon passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2010.
Mr. Morris was born on September 9, 1925 in Bartow County, son of the late Jesse Morris and the late Mattie Mae McGuire Morris. He retired from the General Motors Corporation at the age of 80 with 33˝ years of service. Mr. Morris was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Robert Harvey Morris.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Grace Mosley Morris of Aragon to whom he married on April 14, 1946; a daughter, Carelene Griffin and husband LaMahta of Rome; three sons, Larry Morris and wife Hannah of Taylorsville, Donald Morris and wife Robin of Rockmart and Keith Morris of Nashville TN; and a brother, Raiford Morris of Aragon. Ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Morris will be held on Thursday afternoon, February 25th at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. James Owen “Bud” Davis, Jr. and the Rev. Cordell Tibbetts officiating with remarks by Mr. Melton Moss. Interment services will follow in the family lot of the Aragon Cemetery.
Mr. Morris's grandsons have been asked to serve as pallbearers: Phil Blissitt, Rob Morris, Heath Morris, Dalton Morris, Casey Childers and Randy Cook.
Chris Childers and his co-workers from General Motors have been asked to serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 24th between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m.
